Toyohashi south coast Fireball

Return buck to Meteorite List

At Jan.4,2020,12h42m35s UT(=Jan.4, 21h42m35s LT), A bright fireball appeared over Pacific on south side of west part of Shizuoka prefecture.
Yasunori Fujiwara(in Osaka), SonotaCo(in Tokyo) and Kazuhiko Yoneda(in Ishikawa) observed this fireball by automatic TV cameras.
Adding, Mr. Fjiwara also caught fireball spectrum on beginning half part that indicate stony meteoroid.
M.Ueda calculated trajectory and orbit.
Detail data was published in "SonotaCo Network" articles.(in Japanese)

Initial velocity was 28.6km that is fast case of meteorite fall.
Luminous end height was 27.8 km altitude that is low case of its velocity.
TV image is shown short tail that is estimated released fine fragments continuously.
However, gross fragmentation was not indicate on luminous curve or deceleration of velocity.
I estimate from these phenomena, hard meteoroid restrain fragmentation and ablation.
Estimated impact area was almost on sea sorrily.
But 50g or more sized meteorite was possible to fall on ground near coast.

Predicted impact area
Toyohashi city, Aichi prefecture

Red ellipse is predicted impact area.
