Noto west region Fireball

Return buck to Meteorite List

At Feb.6,2020,12h59m50s UT(=Feb.6, 21h59m50s LT), A bright fireball south to north appeared over west side of the Noto peninsula, Ishikawa prefecture.
Chikara Shimoda(in Nagano), Hiroshi Yamakawa(in Ishikawaa), Sambonmatsu high school(in Kagawa),
Hiroshi Kawakami(in Nagano), Daichi Fujii(in Kanagawa) and Toshihiro Masuzawa(in Nagano) observed
this fireball by automatic TV cameras. M.Ueda calculated the trajectory and orbit.
Most image were not so good condition because far from fireball or short part of fireball path images as results, calculation error were large.
Detail data was published in "SonotaCo Network" articles.(in Japanese)

Initial velocity was 18.0km that is fast case of meteorite fall.
Mr. Yamakawa image show fragmentation to about 4 pieces near the end of trajectory.
Estimated impact area was central or east side of Noto peninsula by fast westerlies pushing.
That area is almost mountain forest where is hard to find meteorite.
Estimated meteorite mass was smaller than 100g but include large error.

Predicted impact area
Noto peninsula, Ishikawa prefecture

Red ellipse is predicted impact area.
