As for MOULTON bicycle, I would like to pick up another model here. It’s a Pylon.When I saw the bicycle for the first time, I was amazed at the greatness. I also felt the same feeling when I started to assemble by myself. It’s great ! (once again)
What confused me most in working on Pylon was assembling the handle. Diameter of stem clamp of which top separates two ways was 26.0mm. Mosquito shaped option handlebar made from aluminum was 22.2mm. With these sizes, I could not assemble the handle in any way. I wonder how other person can assemble it.
Then, I let you know how I managed to cope with. I finally decided to create 2 divided parts. Aluminum cylindrical stick was lathed to be the size of outside diameter 26.0 mm and inside diameter of 22.3mm, which were divided into two. These sticks are inserted into the stem clamp to be fixed on the position. This is enough for the stabilization. In this case, we have to use lathe, so that we can fix firmly both outside and inside diameter.
Another matter what I thought about the handle is that the grip seems to be extremely curved to inside. Do you think so ? I think it should be more parallel. Angle of the grip width is almost same as that of upright handle of mini cycle. However, they are different in total width and position. Of course, I do not meat that I condemn the existing part as bad or insufficient.
Now, I am trying various kinds of configuration by bending or welding steel pipes.
However, given that many difficulties I had to face, it would be wise for me to choose drop handlebars from the beginning. This must have reduced my concerns.
Review of shape of Handle
A) I think the angle with this curve may be good. Wrist curve is natural. I made sure that total width was same as that of original as there seems to a matter of taste. Radius of curve is also the same. I attached clamps to two parts.
B) This picture shows they are placed in parallel. Grip curve is the only difference from Plan A. The shape seems to be boring, rather than being not so interesting.
C) A handle built up with an image of truss in connection with Pylon. If I dare to try it, this would be enough. I like this most of all these.
I feel more comfortable to ride Pylon rather than AM series. I think Pylon seems to be beautiful when you just display it at your house instead of riding it. As I read somewhere, it will also be used as objet d’art. I am impressed with its fine elaboration.
As Pylon is sophisticated and perfectly built bicycle, I feel its strong will that rejects modification or remodeling. I mean, “I cannot make anymore change to the completed bicycle” In that sense, Pylon is not so interesting for me.
A bicycle is very difficult for me to deal with. What an amazing thing!
What should I build next ? I always have some kind of worries.
