A soft pen and soft flesh shout for non-war(extracts by Koichi SHIMAOKA) Eriko Watanabe, dramatist and actress from ASAHI-SHIMBUN newspaper dated 29 March '03 |
I am in the state where I cannot write only a line of a drama now. I went to the Prime Minister's official residence by two persons with the same dramatist, Ms. Kumiko Shinohara, by preparedness to be arrested on the previous day of the outbreak of war. Since theater is amusement, I have so far kept my distance from political movement. Experience in a father's wartime was heard and I know that my birth itself is the pile of miracles... throgh my collecting materils... my turning point came up. I see the figures of the children similarly troubled beyond those who was troubled with the crack of the heart which war left 60 years after. Deciding "We will do what is possible", I have formed with the friends "the meeting of the theatrical people who are opposed to the Iraq war and the legal framework for war contingencies". The reading play was performed on February 28. The same event is opened at the KINOKUNIYA's Southern Theater also from 7:00 p.m. on the 5th of the next month. I named to it "No giving up- the theartre is the power of non-war." Theater must express freedom and peace through a soft pen and soft flesh, and in order for the theater to breathe, the world must be free and must be peace. Such a prayer and a wish were put there. |
