About Aikido Kimori Dojo
Aikido Kimori Dojo was established on the 20th of January 2002 by Kimori Dojo’s chief instructor, Toshiharu Sawada Shihan (7th Dan). To celebrate the occasion Kimori Dojo was honored to have Moriteru Ueshiba, the grandson of the founder of Aikido and the current chairman of the Aikikai Foundation, attend and give a rare demonstration of his Aikido. Since that time membership has been growing steadily and as of January 2006 the general membership has exceeded over one hundred and thirty members including around seventy children. Due to the increase in membership Kimori Dojo has recently been enlarged in size from fifty tatami mats to eighty. Aikido Kimori Dojo

Every year instructors from the Aikido Hombu Dojo (Aikikai Aikido World Headquarters) located in Tokyo are invited to seminars held by Kimori Dojo. To date Kimori Dojo has been fortunate enough to have Hideo Yonemochi Shihan,Takanori Kuribayashi Shihan and Syouji Seki Shihan, attend and instruct at these seminars. Kimori Dojo takes part in various seminars and because of this has also been able to developed close links with Etsuji Hori Shihan and all the members of his Dojo in Kobe (Kobe Sanda Dojo).

Kimori Dojo also has a branch Dojo located in Silicon Valley, America which is run by Hiroshi Matsuoka Sensei. In addition Kimori Dojo maintains good relations with Aikido Shinryukan, headed by Nobuo Takase Shihan, in New Zealand.Sawada Shihan visits New Zealand at least once a year in order to instruct weapons classes (bokken and jo) at seminars which are held there.Sawada Shihan also travels to and instructs in China. In July of 2005 a member of Kimori Dojo, Hirofumi Yamamoto, moved to China to assist with the instruction of Aikido there. Through Aikido, Kimori Dojo would like to continue making new connections with people from various regions and countries throughout the world.

For Beginners

Beginners are most welcome to come and watch any of the classes or train in the general and basics classes.

Points to remember:

-Try to arrive ten minutes before the class starts and introduce yourself to the instructor.

-If you are going to train please wear some comfortable loose fitting clothing.

-Be polite to everyone in the dojo and remember to show your seniors respect.

-During the class listen to the instructors carefully and work hard to improve your technique.

-When the class finishes make sure you help clean the Dojo.

-The most important thing too remember is to have fun! If you are new to martial arts you may feel a little uncomfortable in the Dojo for the first time or find that some of the movements/techniques are difficult to perform, this is normal. Please remember that the instructors and other students are there to help you if you have any questions.
